Jack sets off to sell his cow at market (‘Best Friend’) but instead trades it for five magic beans from an old man (‘1,2,3,4,5’). Excited by the deal, he returns home, only to be scolded by his mother, who throws the beans out the window. Jack goes to bed hungry and sad.

The next morning, he discovers a massive beanstalk stretching into the sky (‘Magic is Real’). Climbing it, Jack finds a giant’s house. The giant’s kind wife feeds him, but when the unfriendly giant returns, Jack must hide (‘Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum’). Jack escapes with a sack of gold coins, bringing them home to his delighted mother.

Wanting to please her, Jack returns to the giant’s house (‘Jack’s Song’ part 1), but this time the giant spots him and gives chase (‘Jack’s Song’ part 2). Jack races down the beanstalk, calling for help. His mother chops it down, sending the giant plummeting to earth.

Though the adventure was thrilling, Jack realizes that the true magic is being home with his mother (‘Magic is Real’ reprise).
