A miller’s son laments his misfortune and lack of wealth (‘The Short End of the Stick’). To his surprise, his cat suddenly speaks and asks for a fancy pair of boots. Without questioning it, the miller’s son obliges (‘Puss in Boots’).

Now stylishly booted, Puss sets out with a plan to change his owner’s fate. He visits the Queen, presenting partridges as gifts from his master, whom he calls the Count (‘My Royal Obsession’). Grateful for the generosity, the Queen rewards Puss with gold for the Count (‘Puss in Boots’ reprise).

Buoyed by his success, Puss devises a grander scheme to secure the Count’s status (‘Quick on Your Feet’). First, he must outsmart the sorceress who owns the castle where he tells the Queen the Count lives. Using her own magic against her (‘I Can Be Anything’), Puss defeats the sorceress.

When the Queen finally meets the Count, she is impressed, cementing his new title and wealth. The once-poor miller’s son now lives in luxury, thanks to his clever cat (‘Glitter to Gold’).
